Content Rules

To keep Shakespeers fun and safe for everyone, we review all submitted writing and comments to make sure they follow our rules.

Our Rules

Be sure anything you share on Shakespeers is

  • Kind - We’re here to build each other up, not tear each other down
  • Age appropriate - Think about the topics you'd see in a PG movie
  • Your own work - It’s great to get inspired by others, but don’t copy writing from other stories on Shakespeers or anywhere else
  • Safe - Don't share real names, your home address, or any other personal information

A Note for Parents

We find that the level of detail in the bullet points above is sufficient for most kids, but we know parents may want to see a more in-depth list of the topics we don’t allow on Shakespeers. You can find that list below. Since these are sensitive topics, we'll leave it to you to decide whether or how to discuss these more detailed policies with your kids.

Be Kind

We don’t allow:

  • Hate speech.
  • Anything that promotes bullying.

Be Age-Appropriate

We don’t allow:

  • Anything sexually explicit. Stories that involve crushes or romance are permitted, but we don't permit descriptions of anything sexual beyond kissing.
  • Self-harm themes or scenes, including suicide and eating disorders.
  • Graphic depictions of violence.
  • Profanity.
  • References to substances that are illegal for kids to use, including drugs and alcohol.

Share Original Work

  • No plagiarism. Don’t copy someone else’s writing, whether you found it on Shakespeers or elsewhere.

Don't Share Personally Identifiable Information

  • Don't share real names, home addresses, or anything else personally identifiable

We’re all learning and growing together, and these rules may change as needed. We will be sure to note any changes to these rules clearly. We reserve the right to take down any content any time in order to keep our community safe for all kids.

What Happens if a Child Violates These Rules?

If a child submits a story or comment that violates these rules, the child and their parent will be notified via the Notifications section of their dashboards, and their parent will also be notified via email. We will share information about what needs to change for the story or comment to be accepted so that the child can make any necessary edits and resubmit for review.
